The classic tuxedo is a staple in any modern gentleman’s wardrobe. It’s the one outfit you know that you’ll always be able to turn to when you wish to dress up and make a real effort. There’s something quite empowering about putting on a smart ensemble that you know is tailor made to make a statement.
With a number of weddings, formal dinners and parties to attend over the next few months, I knew I wanted to take the plunge and acquire a tux of my very own – as previously, I’ve just rented one depending on the occasion. However having just purchased my very first home, making an investment for my wardrobe initially seemed quite daunting. The average price of a high quality tux is a little out of my current budget – and so the search continued.
And then Matalan got in touch, as if having read my mind. They were launching a very attainable and affordable luxury tuxedo collection – made with the modern man in mind (and one who doesn’t want to take out a second mortgage to purchase it). Coming in at a grand total of just over £130, I was a little cynical as to whether it would be of high quality. Luckily, it surpassed my expectations and now hangs proudly in my wardrobe.
With a classic and timeless feel, I’m positive it will be a stable piece within my clothing collection, having the ability to showcase at any formal occasions and not look out of place.
The tux can be worn as a standalone piece and is easy modify to ‘casual mode’ with the use of the jacket with a simple white shirt and blue jeans. Or you could wear it as intended – the full works from the bow-tie down to the smart black brogues.
Both well fitting and comfortable, it’s a perfect choice for any formal occasion – without me feeling awkward and OTT.
The three piece suit complements itself well with the navy blue colours making up the base of the design, then with the wings of the dinner jacket and the seams of the trousers laced with a lovely black satin finish to really make the whole design very distinguishable yet also very subtle.
The choice of my crisp white shirt made sense with this particular piece as I feel with a tux personally you have to stay classic with your blues, whites and blacks.
With the offset of colour contrasting against the background of the Notting Hill houses, we spent the afternoon basking in our beautiful surroundings and making the most of the photo opportunities.
This is an amazing option for those who are on a slightly lower budget or simply want to populate your wardrobe with smarter attire. To be fully kitted out with a superb tux for any occasion for under £150 is a superb deal. In my opinion why would you spend thousands when you can get the same finish and quality outcome for quarter of that.
